The Strokes are plotting to release their first new album since 2013’s Comedown Machine this year (20).

The group shared the news during a special New Year’s Eve (31Dec19) gig at the Barclays Center in New York, where they were joined by special guests Mac Demarco and Hinds.

After teasing the crowd with talk of new music, the band introduced one of the tunes from the upcoming record, with frontman Julian Casablancas declaring: “Yeah, we have a new album coming out soon.”

He added of the 12:51 group´s forthcoming sixth record: “Surprise. 2020 here we come. We took the 2010’s – whatever the f**k they’re called – we took ’em off but now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back.”

Back in September, lead guitarist Nick Valensi teased that the new record had been completed, marking the indie rockers´ first new music since the 2016 Future Present Past EP.

The LP is expected to feature Ode to the Mets, which the group also played at the New Year show and Casablancas teased in the Morgan Neville and Rick Rubin music documentary, Shangri-La.
